Welcome to Mamaku School
Mamaku School was established in 1910 on the current site (there had been a previous school in Mamaku on a site near the mill in 1899). Most of the children are from the surrounding village, lifestyle blocks or outlying farms. Mamaku is a full primary catering for children from Year 0 -Year 8.
We maximise ICT tools by blending the learning with the Year 3-8 students all having Chromebooks. Our aspirational goal is to have all students 1:1 with digital devices working with integration with the digital curriculum. The parent portals like Hero, Google apps and teacher dashboard are managed by the school to support a higher understanding.
We have undertaken PC4L training and programmes like Understanding Behaviour and Responding Safely workshop to support and encourage positive behaviour and learning. We continue the Positive Culture 4 Learning framework to support relationships with our students, parents, whanau and community. As part of the Positive Culture 4 Learning process we updated our school values for 2020. These will be taught with all Kaiako - teachers for all students.
We have modern learning environments to enhance the learning programmes and allow for more adaptive learning.
We plan and teach to achieve our School Vision within the Essential Learning Areas, Key Competencies and Principles of the New Zealand Curriculum. Our school-based curriculum is underpinned by a belief that learning is most successful when students have student agency and teachers are activators of learning. We are part the Te Maru o Ngongotaha Kahui Ako with a focus on hauora - wellbeing inquiry to strengthen Maori student achievement.
The Mamaku school philosophy of TOGETHER is the acronym for our school virtues. At Mamaku School we work, learn and grow TOGETHER. This philosophy extends to our community who support the school in many ways and helps foster unity and whanau bonds.
The students walk, bike or are driven to school each day. The school roll has varied over the last 50 years between 110 –145, the current roll is 90.
There is a Play Centre in the village. Our Year 7/8 students travel to Western Heights High School to attend technology. Most children leave from Mamaku School at the end of Year 8 and attend Western Heights High School. Year 8 children from Mamaku often gain places in the accelerate and diligence classes, they do extremely well and go on to be leaders in a variety of areas at school and in society.
At Mamaku School we have generous teaching spaces, a technology room, a junior and senior ablution block, a school hall, under cover court area, an administration block, a resource centre, a library, two large playing fields, a BMX/Bike track, nature areas, storage spaces and a 25m x 8.4m indoor swimming pool complex.
